...Wet Weather Ahead...
GOOD MORNING! The Alabama weather story seems to be a wet one for the next
few days as the state will enter into an unsettled pattern. Some arts of
the state will receive as much as five inches of rain, and everyone seems
destined for a good soaking.
TODAY'S WEATHER: The front that drifted into Central Alabama yesterday will
be coming back to the north today. In addition, an upper level disturbance
and surface low pressure system will be moving east from Texas over the next
few days. Showers and thunderstorms will overspread the state during the
day from the west and southwest. Those showers and storms will continue
during the overnight hours. Temperatures this afternoon should make it to
around 80 degrees. Increased humidity levels tonight should keep overnight
lows in the middle 60s. Severe weather will be possible today, especially
over West Central and Southwest Alabama. Some significant severe weather is
expected to the west of Alabama over the Arklatex into Mississippi. We will
be monitoring the progress of any potential severe weather this afternoon
and tonight.
MONDAY/TUESDAY: By Monday, widespread showers and thunderstorms will be
ongoing over Alabama. This is not good news for outdoor holiday activities,
but is good news in the rainfall department. By Tuesday morning, the
surface low will be near Monroe, Louisiana. Showers and storms will be
continuing on Tuesday. The storms could be strong to severe again on Monday
and Tuesday.
REST OF THE WEEK: If you believe the GFS model and the progs from NCEP in
Washington, D.C., our culprit surface low will still be to the west of
Alabama in eastern Mississippi. As the low lifts into Tennessee, the rain
and storms will gradually begin to diminish. By that time, many areas will
have received four inches of rain.
ON THIS DATE IN 1999: A father and son were both killed by lightning during
a fishing trip on the Black Warrior River near Demopolis. The pair were
killed as they raced back to shore in an attempt to get to safety.
