...Wet Weather Returns Tonight...

Moist air returns to Alabama today, and a few scattered showers could break out late this afternoon during the heat of the day. Showers and storms will become more widespread tonight and tomorrow as an upper air system drops southward from Minneapolis to Memphis over the next 36 hours. Rainfall amounts should average about one inch, with a few spots possibly getting more.

A few strong storms could be involved, but the wind fields are relatively weak so a major severe weather event is not very likely.

THE WEEKEND: The upper air system will weaken and drift to the Gulf coast on Saturday, and the showers should become more widely scattered as the weekend begins. The best chance of rain Saturday will generally be south of I-20. Sunday should be dry for the entire northern half of the state. Afternoon temperatures over the weekend will peak in the low 80s.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front will bring the risk of showers Monday afternoon, followed by drier air on Tuesday.

AT THE BEACH: Warm and humid weather for the central Gulf coast through the weekend. There will be intervals of sunshine, but also the chance of scattered showers and storms on a daily basis through Sunday. High temperatures will be in the 80 to 83 degree range, and the sea water temperature is up to 80 degrees.

ADRIAN: An early season eastern Pacific tropical storm will slam into Central America today, bringing the risk of life threatening floods and mudslides to El Salvador and Honduras. The system will emerge in a weakened state in the Caribbean tomorrow. Upper air winds won’t favor any major strengthening as it moves northeast in the direction of Cuba.
