NOT EVERYBODY GOT A LOT OF RAIN: Widespread rain fell across a big part of Alabama in the last 36 hours or so, but not everybody received beneficial amounts. In fact across the Tennessee Valley, only 0.03 was reported in Hartselle and only 0.02 in Huntsville. Even Cullman only received one-tenth of an inch. It was also much lighter down south. By far the heavier rain was over a broad area of Central Alabama where many places received 1.50 to 2.00 inches. Parts of West Central Alabama got about 3 inches.
Todays weather map looks like a jigsaw puzzle across the southern half of the nation with a stationary front zigzagging from Eastern New Mexico across Central Texas and Louisiana and across the south parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. We will have to figure out the timing of various disturbances moving eastward near that front. Today, for example, was expected to be a very wet day across Alabama, but the cooler and more stable air pushed further south than expected and not much was going on. Tonight will feature low clouds, fog and drizzle, but more showers and storms will spread into the area late.
Tuesday looks like another wet day as showers and storms increase again with rainfall locally heavy. The Storm Prediction Center has about the south half of Alabama under a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday. After that we dont expect as many showers and storms for the rest of the week. Check our day-by-day forecast.
BURGESS JUNCTION: Its our pick location for today for some of the most interesting weather. It is a small community on Wyoming State Route 14 crossing the northern part of the Big Horn Mountains near the Wyoming-Montana border. It is several miles east of the Continental Divide. They should get 12-14 inches of snow in the next 24 hours and there will be blowing and drifting snow skipping around to other locations, as much as 7 inches of rain over parts of SE Texas over the weekend...severe thunderstorm warnings in the mountains east of Salt Lake early today increased the fear of mudslides...2 injuries in a tornado near Meyerland, Texas last night...104 in Laredo was the hottest yesterday...31 in Ely, Nevada was the coldest this morning.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Played hooky from church yesterdaymainly because of weather workbut I had time to have a record amount of play time with little Miss Molly. Would you believe it spoiled her even more? This morning she jumped out of bed very, very early and was bouncing around the living area like a ping pong ball wanting to play. At one time she piled 3 toys on my shoe, looked up at me with those big eyes and wagged her tail so vigorously that I could almost hear it swishing. You can guess that I put down my coffee cup and followed her instructions. That little 9-pound girl sure has me hooked. I will be under bondage to her for the rest of my life, but all bondage is not bad. Life goes on.
