GOOD AFTERNOON: It is sad to be leaving Denver this afternoon,
after an education and fun weekend, renewing old acquaintances and making
new ones Isn't it funny how people rarely look like what you think they
will look like just from their names. I met many storm chasers for the
first time on this trip. I had seen many of their posts in WX-CHASE and in
the Stormtrack forums. Then they turned out to look nothing like I thought.

TODAY/TONIGHT: Today's weather looked pretty much like I expected.
Certainly lots of clouds. Temperatures behaving. And the radar sort of as
I imagined it when I wrote the morning package. A nice area of steady rain
has been falling over the Tennessee Valley region since early morning.
Radar estimates indicated that parts of Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence and
Limestone Counties probably picked up over an inch of rain this morning.
Showers have been more scattered over Central Alabama, where rainfall
amounts have been light and spotty. The airmass over Central Alabama was
still relatively dry, thanks to a more easterly and southeasterly flow,
which was still giving us a relatively dry feed of air from Georgia. The
flow will become more southerly with time and the moisture spigot will be
turned on full force. The combination of the increasing moisture and low
pressure to our northwest will serve to increase our rain chances as we head
into the overnight hours tonight. There could even be a few storms thrown
in with the rain.

TOMORROW: Those rain and storm chances will remain high on Monday,
with the front impinging on te warm and moist airmass. There will be quite
a bit of instability tomorrow, and there could even be a few strong
thunderstorms. A few severe weather warnings are not even out of the
question.

REST OF THE WEEK: Indications are that the front may have enough
moxie to make it through our area on Tuesday. We will once again experience
showers and storms over the area, thanks to the relatively unstable air and
the front. The front will hang up over South Alabama, and wait on another
disturbance that will push east on Wednesday. Another area of rain should
cross the state then. Most of the precipitation should be over by Thursday
morning, but a little light rain could linger before noon.

If the low goes a little further south, along the Gulf Coast, our
forecast could be considerably drier, although a few showers will still be
likely.

We should see a return of some sunshine on Friday. Another front
will approach the area from the north of Saturday, but it should have little
to work with in the way of moisture and shower chances should be limited.
Temperatures from midweek on will drop back to slightly below normal levels
for this time of year. We will flirt with freezing readings on Friday and
Saturday morning.

ON THIS DATE IN 1994: In Caribou, ME, the mercury soared to 59
degrees to record their warmest winter temperature ever, in spite of a deep
snow cover.
