...Back in the Fridge...

GOOD MORNING! Well, our topsy-turvy weather continues. A chilly
start to the week was followed by three days of above normal temperatures.
But Winter has a powerful way of reminding us that it is in charge, and it
did so on the wings of strong northwesterly winds overnight. Gusting as
high as 40 mph winds, those winds ushered in some much colder air.
Temperatures fell deep into the 20s overnight, with wind chills in the
single digits and teens. Temperatures will struggle to make it out of the
thirties across North Alabama today, despite near total sunshine. Those
northerly winds today will continue to be quite brisk, averaging 10-20 mph.

VERY COLD NIGHT AHEAD: With clear skies and light winds,
temperatures tonight will tumble into the teens over much of the northern
half of the state.

UPCOMING WEEK: Skies will continue to be mostly sunny through
Tuesday. Another Albert a Clipper over the Midwest will spin up another
coastal low by midweek over the East Coast. This will push another cold
front through Alabama on Wednesday night. Skies may become mostly cloudy
again, and there could be a few light showers with this feature, but
moisture should be limited. Temperatures will moderate over the next few
days, with daytime highs reaching the 50s on Tuesday. They should stay
there for the rest of the week. Strong high pressure over the Ohio Valley
should slide east, allowing our winds to shift around to the south again by
Saturday.

By that time, low pressure will be getting organized to the west of
Alabama. This storm system will bring rain and thunderstorms back to the
state by Sunday night.

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY: Snow fell across much of the Carolinas, with
seven inches reported in Charlotte, NC. The snowfall closed schools and
snarled traffic. More than eight inches fell in Ocracoke on the Outer
Banks. A dusting fell in Myrtle Beach, SC, where a record low of 16F caused
pipes to freeze. Ten inches fell in Gaffney, SC.
