...Record Watch...

GOOD MORNING! Checking the record books, we see a chance for Birmingham to
come close to the record highs for today and tomorrow. The record for
today and tomorrow is 72. We are calling for a high of 70 today and 72 on
Monday. A little extra sunshine could be enough to reset those marks.

THE FORECAST: Alright, I have to admit that yesterday felt a little
springlike. The high at the Birmingham Airport was 71. Tuscaloosa reached
74. Today promises to be a lit like yesterday with a good bit of sunshine
working around patches of high clouds from time to time. There is a very
small chance of showers over western and northern sections today. There
probably is a small chance tonight through Tuesday, but it is small enough
to leave it out of the forecast. With high moisture levels from a decent
southerly flow, we will deal with a good bit of cloudiness each period
through Tuesday, but there will still be at least some sunshine. Our
temperatures will remain above normal through at least Wednesday.

MIDWEEK COLD FRONT: A cold front will begin approaching Alabama on
Wednesday. There are increasing signs that this front will not make it all
the way through the area. This means that the cooler air will be delayed,
perhaps until Sunday or Monday. It also means that the best chance for rain
will come on Sunday most likely, with showers slowly increasing in the
Thursday, Friday and Saturday time frame.

MORE RECORDS: Many high temperature records were set across the Midwest,
South and East Coast on New Years Day, including 65 at Crossville, TN, 66 at
Wichita, 69 at Washington National Airport, 67 at Asheville, N.C., 63 at
Harrisburg, PA, 70 at Springfield, MO, and 60 at Islip, NY.

ON THIS DATE IN 1955: Hurricane Alice became both the latest and the
earliest hurricane on record in the Atlantic when she became a hurricane on
December 31, 1954 and crossed over into 1955. The unusual hurricane
battered the Leeward Islands with winds of 85 mph on this date.
