ABC 33/40 E-Forecast - Upcoming Events

Tuesday October 19

To: ABC 33/40 E-Forecast Subscribers
From: James Spann

We have so much going on in our weather office I felt the need to send a
special note to highlight everything!

*Storm Alert XTREME on Saturday, October 30:
If you like the ABC 33/40 E-Forecast, you will love this. After many
requests over the years, we are taking our live Storm Alert show to the
"XTREME". Storm Alert XTREME will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic
Center on Saturday, October 30 at 9:30 a.m. We recommend this for anyone who
really likes weather and wants to learn more about tornadoes and severe
thunderstorms. ABC 33/40 meteorologist Brian Peters, who has trained over
6,000 storm spotters in Alabama during his days with the National Weather
Service, will be conducting a basic and advanced severe storm spotting
session, which means first responders and anyone involved with emergency
management, police, or fire departments will really benefit as well.

Bill Murray, who intercepted seven tornadoes out in the great plains in May
of this year, will present a session on his remarkable day complete with
photos. You will also hear from Jason Wright of the National Weather
Service, and others. Make plans now to attend; you will learn more about
tornadoes and severe storms in one morming than some learn in a lifetime.
There is no cost. Get the schedule here:

*Storm Alert XTREME prime time special on Thursday, October 28:
Prior to the October 30 show at the BJCC, ABC 33/40 will air a one hour
prime time special on Thursday, October 28 from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. We will
feature stories on some of the most violent tornadoes in Alabama, including
the April 8, 1998 F5 in the western part of Birmingham, and December 16,
2000 Tuscaloosa F4, and even the "Super Outbreak" of April 3, 1974. Once
again, if you like weather you will really want to watch this.

*Face to Face With Ivan DVD
The DVD is now on sale at Compass Bank branch locations across Alabama. This
DVD includes two hours of our live on-air coverage when Ivan roared through
the state on September 16, and raw video from our crews on the coast,
including Bill Castle's video taken from a beach-front condo during
landfall. Really amazing stuff. The DVD costs 10 dollars, and every penny
goes to the American Red Cross and their hurricane relief effort in south
Alabama.

*Face to Face With Ivan TV Special
We have posted our special that aired on ABC 33/40 this past Saturday night
in prime time on our video page. We know many of you were out of pocket
Saturday night (or watching football!), so now you can watch it online
anytime: http://beta.abc3340.com/weather/video.hrb

RANDOM NOTES:

*While I am at the keyboard, I should remind you there is a risk of severe
thunderstorms across much of Alabama later today. For the rest of the
morning, the main problem with be a flash flood threat across the northern
counties where a band of strong storms continues to sag southward. New
storms should develop this afternoon, and if we can get a little heating
going on those storms could be quite robust. Of course, we will have updates
as needed on ABC 33/40 throughout the day, and on the web here:
http://beta.abc3340.com/weather/7day.hrb

*We have heard from some who have stopped getting the E-Forecast. When this
happens, it is almost always related to SPAM control measures in place by
Internet Service providers. There isn't much we can do about it, but as a
customer you can contact your ISP and ask them to pass the E-Forecast!

Our regular afternoon E-Forecast will be along later today...
