...Hot And Steamy Summer Weather...

Hot and steamy summer weather headlines the forecast again today for
Alabama. Temperatures will soar into the 90s in most communities again this
afternoon, and any storms that form during the heat of the day should remain
widely separated. Heat index values will be near 100 at times this afternoon
thanks to dewpoints in the low to mid 70s.

We expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to become more numerous across
the state tomorrow and Thursday as a "cold" front approaches from the north,
and stalls out somewhere in Tennessee. Active storms along the front itself
should send a few boundaries down this way, helping to enhance the number of
storms.

WEEKEND PEEK: Down the road, we pretty much expect a rather routine July
weather pattern for Friday and the weekend, with partly sunny hot days, fair
nights, and the risk of a passing thunderstorm each afternoon in a few
spots. Daytime temperatures will peak near 90, with early morning lows near
70.

TROPICAL WEATHER: A tropical wave has emerged in the far eastern Atlantic,
about 300 miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. Some slow development is
possible over the next few days as the system moves to the west.

SUMMER STORMS: There were a total of 216 reports of wind damage yesterday
from thunderstorms that passed through Missouri, southern Illinois,
Kentucky, and Tennessee. Five tornadoes were reported in Iowa and Illinois.

BAMA HEAT: Among the "official" reporting stations in Alabama, Montgomery
was the hot spot yesterday with 96 degrees. Birmingham reached 91 yesterday
for the second time this year. The hottest day so far was June 12 with 92.
